ABOUT REAL SHIPS
Custom Boatbuilding
Custom boatbuilding at Real Ships is about creating a yacht that does more than meet your cruising needs – it also represents your personality and style. Our team’s commitment to this individualized approach means that we also remain true to the vessel’s own mission statement and capabilities. At Real Ships, we recognize that each boater is different, and we will build each yacht with a distinctive character as well as the capacity to cross oceans, taking you safely and comfortably to exotic locations.
Our philosophy focuses from inception to completion on custom boatbuilding with high-quality materials. Each boat begins with the finest grade of U.S. plate steel, providing you with a palette of infinite possibilities for the interior layout. Real Ships doesn’t offer a Plan A or a Plan B; here, you’ll find an entire alphabet of design choices. While our experienced welders are building the solid steel foundation of your yacht, assuring the ultimate in safety and strength, you will be working with our exclusive interior experts – or your own – to define the layout of your vessel. Your preferences will dictate the shape, size and accessories of saloon, galley, stateroom accommodations and pilothouse features. Throughout construction, you’ll guide every related detail, from color and appliances to flooring and furniture.
The Flexibility Of Steel
The naval architecture of Real Ships’ hulls is a joint effort by Bray Research and Design in Vancouver, Canada; Ship Architects, Inc. in Daphne, Alabama; and Real Ships’ in-house team. Our tank-tested hull incorporates many features that are unique and can only be found in our vessels. Our boatyard is located in the heart of the Gulf Coast’s steel boatbuilding industry, home to large-scale commercial and luxury companies including Austal and Trinity. Boatbuilders across the United States take advantage of the region’s infrastructure and expertise for computerized laser and water-jet cutting. For us, these facilities are right down the street.
Our ABS certified welders form the steel with graceful shear lines, tumblehome side plating and cambered decks, which provide increased strength for the hull in addition to allowing the surfaces to shed water efficiently. Because we recognize the importance of stability, maneuverability and weight-to-size ratios, we construct the pilothouse of our yachts with aluminum. We ensure a strong and safe weld between the steel and aluminum by using DuPont Detaclad bi-metal, which joins the two dissimilar metals without any risk of electrolytic activity.
The Luxury of Custom Boatbuilding
We believe in building a yacht in which you are comfortable, surrounded by décor and equipment that matches your personality. Of course, that equipment includes everything necessary for you to cruise self-sufficiently and confidently for thousands of nautical miles at a time. We keep you, the owner-operator, in mind, and ensure that your systems are accessible and that your yacht is easy to care for and operate. We invite you to be as much of a part of the process as you desire. From creating your interior appointments with our experienced designer to visiting the yard throughout construction to joining the Real Ships team during sea trials, this is truly your yacht.
